There was huge buzz around the Marc by Marc Jacobs fall 2014 collection – the first time Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier showed under the label. It was one of the hotly anticipated shows of the season at New York Fashion Week and it delivered. Here are 5 things you need to know in case you missed yesterday’s show. 1. Fresh name, fresh start. Just like the models’ tube socks and boots said, the label will now be known as MBMJ going forward. Marc Jacobs signed off on this and it gives the label a chance to grow and gain a new identity. mbmj-fall-2014 2. The show took place in New York’s financial district at Pier 36, right next to the Brooklyn Bridge. Inside it smelled of the fresh wood used to create a skater-park like runway complete with ramps and hills. At the end of the show, models stood in military form on the hills making every editor swivel in their chairs and look behind them to frantically snap pictures on their phones – a rare chance to have a model stand still and get a non-blurry Instagram-worthy picture. Hallelujah! The fashion gods gave everyone a break. 3. Girl power reigned: Ninja-inspired outfits and tight school-girl braided pigtails gave off a “don’t mess with us” and “we mean business” vibe. And you also felt like they could likely karate chop you at any moment.

4. Marc by Marc Jacobs has shown both women and men in the past – this season it was all about the girls with not a male model in sight. 5. Marc Jacobs himself took in his first show as a spectator for his line, sitting front row next to Sophia Coppola, and gave a huge standing ovation at the finish.
