Holt Renfrew hits the baby market

With its new children's department, Holt Renfrew is grooming its future customers to go Gucci gaga. Along with lines like Burberry and Baby Dior, it has posh gifts and accessories, including this Anne Claire Petit monkey ($45) and books with "designer label" titles, such as This Little Piggy Went to Prada by Amy Allen (www.holtrenfrew.com).

Dutch treat
Lady Dutch is the new code for young, hip and hot. Not only are its jeans sexy and its embroidered tops and T-shirts cute; it even makes sweats look sultry. The Montreal-based label has European flair and Hollywood endorsements with such celebs as Paris Hilton, Adrien Brody and stylist Philip Bloch going Dutch. It's also the official clothing sponsor for Canadian Idol winner Melissa O'Neil on her national tour (www.ladydutch.com).

Young Laing's line
With his spring 2006 line, Toronto native Jeremy Laing shed his moniker as Alexander McQueen's protege. The fashion press came out in droves to check out the 26-year-old's cerebral designs and couture-like details. The combination of architectural forms and Edwardian elegance could be seen in such lighlights as a square of parachute silk that is walked through and folded back on itself to become a dress. Holt Renfrew in Toronto carries the label in its World Design Lab (www.jeremylaing.com).
