There’s something inherently lighter about summer: make-up is
fresh and sun-kissed, hair is
tousled and windswept, and our reading list is (guiltlessly) playful yet page-turning – perfect for poolside lounging. Since we know that the Canadian fashion set works hard year-round, we couldn’t resist finding out what beach reads they’re curling up with on their downtime this summer. Here’s to inspired – and fashionable – summer reading!
Laura deCarufel, executive editor, ELLE Canada "I love a beach read that makes me laugh. Once on a beach holiday, I brought
Affliction by Russell Banks—a brilliant but extremely bleak book set during a New Hampshire winter. All I remember is lying on the beach, feeling forlorn—and cold!. (Yikes.) These three books are warm, wonderful and so, so funny: 1)
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark; 2)
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole; 3)
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, which features a ‘transcript’ of an interview between Bridget Jones and Colin Firth that makes me laugh out loud just remembering it."
