Fashion tip: Chunky knit scarf
"Your one essential must-have
accessory this season
is a chunky knit scarf," Millar advises. "It seems every fashion designer this winter season has created a version of this stylish and cozy accessory." Choose a vibrant hue and when it comes to size, the larger and chunkier the better. If your scarf is extra long, wrap it several times over your outerwear to create a relaxed, sophisticated look, she says. "Be playful and choose a fabulous texture or colour and be sure you don't leave home without it."

Fashion tip: Midi and maxi skirts
Get ready to embrace longer hemlines this season. The midi and maxi are here and poised to become
for winter. "Flattering for all body types, longer length skirts can be just as sexy and feminine depending on how you wear them," Millar says. If you're petite, stick to the midi style and show off your calves to add some length to your silhouette. If you are average height to tall opt instead for the longer maxi styles, which are feminine and flattering for a longer frame, she explains. Highlight your waistline with a cinch belt and pair your skirt with a fitted top, tights and long boots to create an overall slim, chic look perfect for the colder months ahead.

Fashion tip: Over-the-knee boots
The versatility of over-the-knee boots has kept them current and this sleek and sturdy footwear is here to stay as the temperature drops. "They are trendy yet practical for the colder months," says Millar. "Many fashion designers showed them dressed up with a skirt and tights, or for an at-home look, keep them more casual with jeans and your favourite overcoat." Regardless of how you wear them, they add a feminine twist to your
winter fashion attire
, which can often look boxy or masculine. [caption id="attachment_6623" align="aligncenter" width="368" caption="Banana Republic (Image courtesy of ImaxTree.com)"]
Fashion tip: Faux fur vest
The love affair with faux fur continues. Fashion designers embraced it during fall fashion week and it has since become a style staple for the colder months. "Embrace fun faux fur to keep you cozy and very
this season," says Millar. A fabulous
faux fur vest
adds on-trend texture to any outfit, from casual to dressy. For the office she suggests opting for natural tones in sophisticated styles to create the perfect business casual look. To take the vest into evening, layer over a fitted blouse or collared shirt and add a drop earring and an eye-catching cuff. For more casual days, simply pair with jeans and a fine knit sweater. Fashion tip: Perfectly fitted trousers
A perfectly fitted pair of trousers is a great go-to piece for colder weather and a must for the
and beyond. "They are chic, flattering and can be worn to create any look," Millar says. Be sure to opt for a cut that compliments your body type (keep trying until you find the perfect pair) and choose a luxurious tweed for the heavier weight and polished look. "They are a must-have for the woman who is sophisticated but not a slave to fashion trends," she explains. Wear them with a longer tunic for a very elegant, current look that works both for the office or running errands or try combining them with a fitted top layered with a brightly coloured knit. Add a belt and a pair of structured ankle booties and you have a stylish, yet understated winter fashion look.
