What are some of the big trends for autumn/winter 08/09?

We turned to Susan Langdon from Toronto Fashion Incubator to help us out with this question. Here's what she said:
"Colour: Black is exceptionally strong for fall/winter 2008. Many Canadian designers such as Denis Gagnon, miss rowe and Lucian Matis showed all-black collections on the runway. Next to black, deep, violet purple will be very hot. It's interesting to note that during uncertain economic times, historically the fashion industry favours black. Maybe we're mourning for happier times! Texture: Your new all-black wardrobe for fall 2008 needs to be texturized. Think chunky knits, lace, pleated and ruched details, black-on-black sequins and embroidered trims. Style: The one-piece sheath dress was a highlight in every designer's collection for fall, whether it was fitted, semi-fitted or egg-shaped. Accessories: For the leg, coloured or black opaque tights look great especially when worn with contrasting colour pumps as shown at Proenza Schouler. Big, bold necklaces continue to dominate the jewellery scene." |
