Is it appropriate for a 30-year-old (single) woman to wear a denim miniskirt? If so, what should the skirt be worn with? Are there ways to dress it up and down?

Age-appropriate dressing can be a minefield to navigate -- and everyone's opinion is slightly different. So for expert advice for this ELLE Canada reader, I went to Marlene Shiff, stylist and owner of Toronto shop Boutique Le Trou. She says:
"It's absolutely appropriate. "For fall/winter, wear it for day with a long tunic and thick tights with high boots, or leggings and flats. The leg and footwear will update it easily. A 3/4-length coat is a good look with this, or a shorter leather jacket. For an alternative top look, try wearing layers of various-length T-shirts and sweaters (a deep open neck is the current sweater favourite). A blazer or short jacket works well here.
"The only way I can see dressing it up is with a metallic/dressy halter top and a velvet blazer or brocade jacket. Footwear here is trickier. A great current but bold option would be dark or coloured tights and open-toed dress shoes (preferably metallic). Otherwise, fancy hose and simple, sexy pumps could work.
"And by the way, single and thirty is the best time of your life. Everything looks better on a single 30-year-old! Enjoy it, don’t measure it!" |
