I have red, curly and short hair. I am thinking about changing my look. What new hair colour should I try out?

Changing your hair colour comes with one difficult question: What colour? Lauren Hilton of Alterna helps you decide.

This season it's all about natural looking color, giving your hair a break from color, and enhancing the color that you're born with.

First try experimenting with styling tools and products, and see if you can find a new look that you like. A straightening iron paired with a good humidity-resistant straightening product, like Alterna's HEMP Straightening Balm, can effectively straighten hair and give you a totally new look. Try a curl-perfecting serum, like Alterna's LIFE Solutions Curls Shape Activator, to transform average curls into red-carpet, shiny, sleek curls. A headband can also give you a cute new look, and this season they come in a variety of colors and materials.

Another option is using a temporary at-home highlighting mascara, which can easily create highlights that wash out in the shower. You can find these in most department and beauty supply stores, and they are a good option for a new look, without making a drastic color change.

If none of these give you the change you're looking for, try a blend of blonde highlights and brown lowlights, which look great with red hair.
