Wedding season is upon us! That means we need a chic and stylish dress and perfect shoes to match! I asked my dear friend Marlene Shiff at Boutique Le Trou for her advice on what is ideal to wear to a wedding in May. 5’6” can carry anything! This season sees a lot of full swinging shapes, so for dazzle and tummy, I would recommend a trapeze-style dress to the knee. Almost a triangle shape, full and swinging at the bottom and closer to the body at the neckline. I like broad shoulders so I would say a slightly haltered armhole, or sleeveless. Neckline around the collarbone area. This is a style that commands attention so shoulders, collarbones and calves are all that’s necessary. Be bold and do it in a bright color or print in a lush fabric, or if you can find it, matte metallic sequins. Embroidery also works. Pumps. Must wear pumps with this type of dress. Either in one of the colors in the dress, or red or white or metallic. You can also achieve a dazzling look with a basic black dress; neckline across the collarbone, sleeveless, slightly bubble shaped with a banded hem, close to the knee. Accessorize dramatically with pearls and rhinestones and sleek metallic high-heel sandals. In some stores you’ll find a few designers who fold fabric into different shapes. There is one style in that genre that works for you. It’s a tank style, that immediately folds outward from the body and falls roundly to the knee. Folded fabrics can emphasize the bust and obscure everything else. Pumps here too.
