I have very red (almost auburn but more red) hair, freckles and fair skin with a rosy undertone. I love red lipsticks but I don't know what to use. I have one that was recommended to me, but when I put it on it's almost the same colour as my hair. Is this okay? Should I stick to neutrals?

I asked Melissa Gibson of M.A.C for a solution to this ELLE reader's dilemma. Here's what she says:

"Matching your lipstick to your hair can look fantastic, especially with redheads! It can create a statement. Determine if you have slightly more orange or blue red to your hair colour. This will help you pick a red lipstick. Colours like M.A.C's Russian Red are a classic blue red. Think Madonna. Neutrals will also look great. I tend towards beige/peach tones with redheads. You want something with a bit of punch to balance out the striking hair colour."
