ELLE Canada offers four-month editorial internships three times a year. (Note: We don’t offer fashion styling internships.) We give priority to recent university graduates and current students with experience in journalism, writing and fashion studies. Sorry, no high school students.
Editorial internships
If your goal is to work for a magazine one day, an editorial internship at ELLE Canada is a good place to learn how magazines are created. Editorial interns are involved in fact-checking, image sourcing and writing contributor bios and some short blurbs. They also provide research for fashion, travel and feature stories (trends, relationships, life, special projects, etc.). Candidates should be highly organized, reliable, have a great eye for detail and possess a superior knowledge of current events, including—but not limited to—fashion, beauty and pop-culture trends.
Editorial-beauty internships
If you’re obsessed with makeup trends and hot new products and you read more beauty blogs than Pat McGrath has lipsticks, a beauty-specific editorial internship might be for you. Beauty interns are involved in fact-checking, story research and image sourcing. They also help manage the beauty closet, organize press-release files, assist on beauty shoots and write some short blurbs. An understanding of the important role beauty plays within our culture and society is a plus, as is a can-do attitude and killer organizational skills.
Editorial-Web internships
If you’re passionate about the online world and have a background in Web editing, writing and blogging, you might be a good fit at ELLECanada.com. Web interns help with Web production, image sourcing, blogging and social-media activities. You must have a keen attitude for learning the latest technologies in online publishing, and basic Photoshop, Word Press and HTML skills are preferred.
Interns must be available to work in our Toronto office, at 25 Sheppard Avenue West, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., three to four days a week, for the duration of the internship. Interns receive a stipend of $750 on completion of the program.
