Artful living: Art hotels around the world

It's never been easier to customize your travels -- spa getaways, yoga retreats, shopping trips -- there are so many packages out there to suit every kind of traveller. Now you can even step your cultural indulgences while travelling by opting to stay at the new "art hotels" around the world -- hotels that live and breath art by housing their own private galleries, partnering with art exhibits, and even having artists in residence. We sourced some of the best art hotels around the world that will help you get in touch with your inner artiste while you live in the lap of luxury.

Essex House, NYC
The Essex House is a long time standard in New York City. The iconic hotel is situated right on the edge of Central Park and most rooms have a spectacular view of the park and the city skyline. But what makes this hotel special is they really are an extension of the park -- capturing the life of the park with prints, paintings and photographs depicting the history of the city's biggest green space -- all in an in-house gallery. The hotel's curator hand selects each piece that is featured -- from the timeless park images to the more eclectic art in the restaurant. The hotel also takes part in NYC's Armory Show -- the classic arts exhibit started by the Kennedys. A stay at the Essex House during this time will also grant you VIP access to the show, special previews and guided tours.

One Aldwych, London
The One Aldwych Hotel in London is not only superior in service, but they also house a 400 piece contemporary art and sculpture collection. Each guest room features at least one piece of original art that has been selected by hotel owner Gordon Campbell Gray -- who travels the world in search of new and upcoming artists. From the boatman with oars sculpture in the hotel's lobby (making it's huge presence known) to the oil on canvas paintings scattered throughout the hotel, Campbell Gray has a flair for finding unique pieces that brings contemporary art into a traditional British hotel.

Placio Duhau, Park Hyatt, Buenos Aires

The stunning Park Hyatt in Buenos Aires used to be a grand palace that was the focal point in the city, and a place with such grandeur certainly requires an impressive array of art pieces. Curators for the hotel selected a wide range of local Argentine and Latin artists to showcase in the hotel's public areas and the underground gallery called Paseo de las Artes. Each piece shows the vitality, culture and life that the vibrant city has to offer. And one of the goals is to have impactful art -- art that may be hard to first look at, causes discussion, and will generate buzz throughout the hotel.

Emirates Towers, Dubai
A stunning masterpiece in and of itself, the grand Emirates Towers is one of the most recognizable and largest hotels in the world and has truly put Dubai on eth tourism map. But they are definitely making a mark in the art world as well, supporting the huge Art Dubai exhibits each year. At the same time, the hotel showcases beautiful art and photography in its Kashta Gallery. This past year they partnered with Magnum Photos from their archive of film imagery. The result, pics of Marilyn Monroe on the set of her last film "The Misfits", and other film icons such as Ingrid Bergman and James Dean, along side Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol.
