The Faces believe their reunion “saved” Ronnie Wood.

The ‘Stay With Me’ hitmakers got back together last year – with Mick Hucknall replacing original frontman Rod Steward and Glen Matlock in place of late bassist Ronnie Lane – and the new singer is convinced their concerts gave the guitarist, who has a history of alcoholism, a sense of purpose again.

Mick said: “Ronnie’s amazing. I’ve never seen him play this well. I think The Faces saved him and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

However, Mick admits it can be hard for Ronnie – who also performs with the Rolling Stones – to watch his bandmates wind down with alcohol after the show but he doesn’t believe it is a “struggle” for him to resist anymore.

Mick added in an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I still have a drink. I love a drink because I’ve never had that problem, that disease. I know my limit.

“But it’s hard for Ronnie when we come off stage and have a drink and start buzzing.

“Poor Ron wants to get out of it before we start talking rubbish. I think he is still sensitive to it being around but at the same time, I really feel he’s not struggling any more.”
