Rizzle Kicks’ top 10 hit ‘Mama Do The Hump’ has been sitting on Fatboy Slim’s computer for 10 years.
The ‘Down with the Trumpets’ duo joined forces with the DJ – whose real name is Norman Cook – for their fifth single from debut album ‘Stereo Typical’ and as soon as he played them the sample the pair knew they were onto a winner.
Jordan ‘Rizzle’ Stephens told the Daily Star newspaper: ”Norman probably made the beat to ‘Mama’ 10 years ago.
”He has all these beats and samples just sitting on his computer, so he played us a whole load of them.
”There were some he said we couldn’t have and then he played this sample of a woman called Bobbie Gentry. As soon as we heard that we were like, ‘Let’s go for it.’
”Norm was glad because he said the hook had been around in his computer for ages and nobody else wanted it.”
But the unwanted song may have never have been released if Jordan hadn’t purchased the DJ’s 1999 hit ‘Right Here Right Now’ years ago, because it proved a handy bargaining tool to convince Norman to work with them after he initially had reservations.
Harley ‘Sylvester’ Alexander-Sule said: ”I think that he was a bit suspicious of us at first.
”He asked us, ‘Why do you want to work with me?’ We were like, ‘Er… because you’re Fatboy Slim. You are a genius.’ ”
Jordan added: ”The second track I ever bought was probably ‘Right Here Right Now’.
”That persuaded him. After that we went to his studio. You could smell 30 years of genius and partying just being there.”
