Nicki Minaj wants her stage shows to be "futuristic" and "epic".
The 'Check It Out' singer is supporting Britney Spears on the US leg of her 'Femme Fatale' tour and says it's important for her to put on a stunning performance which is memorable to her fans.
She said: "I didn't want to do a lot of colour. I sort of wanted to tone it down and sort of bring the colour back from my own tour, so I wanted it to be very sophisticated and sort of, you know, futuristic and all over the place. But sort of cagey and sort of epic.
"I wanted my set to be more than an opening act, 'cause, you know, I did that already. I always like to raise the bar for myself, and that's what I did. I think it's important to give people what they paid for."
Nicki has been a huge hit with the crowds and has been surprised how much they have cheered and are able to follow the words of her tracks.
She added to MTV: "I'm always surprised. I don't really expect them to know all the records, but I guess it just kind of transcends all genres of music at this point."
