Lady Gaga is the only act at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) who is the “the real thing” according to Gene Simmons.

The KISS rocker only has time for the ‘Born This Way’ hitmaker as he thinks the other nominees who will appear at Sunday’s ceremony – including Jessie J, Beyonce Knowles, Adele, Bruno Mars and Pitbull- are too similar to each other.

He told MTV: “There is only one exciting artist, and her name is Lady Gaga. Everybody else is exactly the same. Every rapper is the same as every other rapper; every rocker is the same as every other rocker. Uniqueness is the only important thing, and Gaga is the real thing.”

The ‘Love Gun’ rocker also attacked the current state of rock music, saying he doesn’t think younger artists have enough respect for their music.

He added: “I think rock sucks at the moment. Artists look like delivery boys; they look like they could use a bath.

“There’s no respect for the stage – the stage is holy ground. I don’t care what you do. You don’t have to spit fire or drool blood, but when you get on that stage, you should give people bang for their buck.”

The MTV VMAs will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday (28.08.11).
