Kaiser Chiefs have shock released new album ‘The Future is Medieval’ today (03.06.11).

The ‘I Predict a Riot’ group have ended their hiatus – which began in 2008 after third album ‘Off With Their Heads’ and has been broken only by a handful of shows and festival performances – by posting 20 new tracks on their website, and inviting fans to create their own version of the album by picking ten of the songs.

Fans get to pick not only the tracks, but the artwork for the front cover and they can then sell their version through the website, making £1 for each copy sold.

The band are releasing the track ‘Little Shocks’ as their first single, with keyboardist Nick ‘Peanut’ Baines explaining it was chosen because “it was the first one we finished. You get a feeling don’t you?”

Frontman Ricky Wilson added to BBC Radio 1: “It wasn’t easy. It could have been one of five, I’d say. I think the title is good.”

The group will make their live return in the UK this month, before a strong of festival performances across Europe over the summer.
