Carrie Underwood was the big winner at last night’s (06.12.10) inaugural American Country Awards.

The 27-year-old singer – who shot to fame after winning US TV talent search show ‘American Idol’ in 2004 – scooped all six of the trophies she was nominated for, including Artist Of The Year.

Speaking at the event, held at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand hotel and casino, she said: “We have had the most amazing year out on the road but we wouldn’t be doing anything if there weren’t people out there sitting in that audience.

“So to everybody that came out to see us or anybody else out here, you guys are awesome for supporting us like you do. God bless the fans.”

Among her trophies Carrie also took home Touring Artist Of The Year, Album Of The Year for ‘Play On’, and Single Of The Year: Female for her track ‘Cowboy Casanova’.

Last night was the second time Carrie has been named Artist Of The Year in 2010, after she won the same accolade at the Academy of Country Music Awards in April.

Meanwhile, Lady Antebellum – who are nominated for six Grammy awards next February – scooped four trophies and Easton Corbin finished with three wins, including Breakthrough Artist Of The Year.

The winners at the ceremony were decided by online fan votes, and the biggest surprise of the night came when Taylor Swift – currently one of the biggest and most critically acclaimed names in country music – left with no awards, despite nominations in two categories.
