Arcade Fire performed their biggest ever UK show in London’s Hyde Park last night (30.06.11).

The US group were the latest band to take to the stage at the outdoor venue – which has already seen performances from Kings of Leon, The Killers, Bon Jovi and Rod Stewart in the last week – and delighted the audience with their hit-laden set.

As well as old favourites including ‘The Suburbs’, ‘Rebellion (Lies)’ and ‘Ready To Start’, the group performed a new track entitled ‘Speaking In Tongues’, which appears on the repackaged version of their last album ‘The Suburbs’.

Following applause for the track – which was debuted during a recent show in France – frontman Win Butler said: “That was the least time we’ve been scared doing a song we’ve only really played in rehearsal to 60,000 people, so thank you so much.”

While the group were in good spirits, Win later took a swipe at the surrounding wealthy neighbourhood and the venue’s strict curfew times.

He said: “You know all the rich people who live near this field, they make sure you can’t make a little noise,”

He later added: “The neighbourhood is asking if you can keep it down a little bit.”

It seems fans could be in for a long wait to see the group in action again.

As they left the stage, Win said: “Goodbye London. See you in a couple of years.”

Support for the evening came from The Vaccines, Beirut and Mumford & Sons.
