Best brunch restaurants in Canada: Starving Artist in Toronto

Address: 584 Lansdowne Avenue, 1078 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto

Here at ELLE Canada we’re all for quinoa and kale dominating our lunchtime salads, but what’s a girl to do when carb cravings strike? Short answer: waffles. Luckily, Toronto’s Starving Artist serves nothing but. “They do amazing Instagram-worthy things with waffles.”

Best brunch restaurants in Canada: Fika Cafe in Toronto

Address: 28 Kensington Avenue, Toronto

ELLE Canada’s associate fashion editor Liz loves the “IKEA meets Pinterest” minimalist décor at Fika (which is a Swedish verb meaning “to go out for coffee”) in Kensington Market. Liz recommends the avocado eggs benny with crispy potatoes. Or try the “Fika Smorgasbord” (a daily selection of cheese, meats, pickles and bread). Wash it all down with an iced coffee (two shots of espresso shaken over cardamom bitters, milk and fresh sprigs of mint).

Best brunch restaurants in Canada: Smith in Toronto

Address: Smith: 553 Church Street, Toronto

Our EIC Vanessa calls Smith's parmesan-leek eggs benedict “the stuff of legend.” Decide if this is hyperbole or not by visiting the antique-filled, three floor restaurant (with patio!). Or try the crepes with pistachio and grapefruit, or the doughnuts with lemon curd and espresso caramel.

Best brunch restaurants in Canada: Maison Publique in Montreal

Address: 4720 Rue Marquette, Montreal

Maison Publique, a rustic British-style tavern in the city’s hip Le Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood, is the go-to brunch spot for our team when in Montreal. The constantly changing menu is full of simple but exquisite British and French dishes.

Best brunch restaurants in Canada: Olive & Gourmando in Montreal

Address: 351 Saint-Paul West, Montreal Olive & Gourmando in Old Montreal is a celeb fave.

EIC Vanessa describes the atmosphere as “bustling and busy, like you’re in a movie.” Order "The Reubenesque" or any of the other popular sandwiches with fillings like Schwartz's smoked meat, housemade apple sauerkraut, mustard and cheddar cheese.

Best brunch restaurants in Canada: Panache (at Auberge Saint-Antoine) in Quebec City

Address: 8 Rue Saint-Antoine, Quebec City

We recommend the French drip coffee and French toast at Panache in the historic Auberge Saint-Antoine hotel. The menu features ingredients sourced from the hotel’s very own farm on Iles d'Orleans and herbs grown in the restaurant’s rooftop garden.

Best brunch restaurants in Canada: Zak's in Ottawa

Address: 14 Byward Market Square, Ottawa

For a good, old-fashioned diner breakfast in downtown Ottawa, head to Zak’s. We swear by the restaurant's breakfast smoothies and bacon-and-swiss crepes.

Best brunch restaurants in Canada: River Café in Calgary

Address: 25 Prince's Island Park, Calgary

You have to walk across a bridge to reach the rustic-cool River Café in Prince’s Island Park in downtown Calgary. Try the brioche French toast or butternut squash quiche. Or pre-order a gourmet "takeout" picnic basket brunch – you can take into the park for a private picnic and get celebrating summer in style.

Best brunch restaurants in Canada: Diner Deluxe in Calgary

Address: 104 - 350 Aspen Glen Landing, 804 Edmonton Trail, Calgary

French toast served with mascarpone mousse, mixed berries and preserved lemon is not your typical "diner" fare. That's why there's often a lineup at Calgary's Diner Deluxe.

Best brunch restaurants in Canada: Café Medina in Vancouver

Address: 780 Richards Street, Vancouver

If you have a sweet tooth, order a lavender latte and a Belgian waffle (with toppings like salted caramel and white chocolate pistachio rosewater) at Café Medina, in Vancouver’s Library District. The 1920s-inspired décor is pretty sweet, too.
