Tricks (and treats) should not be just for kids this Halloween. Grab your favourite ghoul and sock hop/time warp on down to your favourite haunted malt shop (undead Danny Zuko costume optional) for this spooky, sweet and, oh yeah, spiked frozen treat from Toronto’s W Burger Bar. As lead bartender Allison Hurley so rightly says: “There’s nothing more Halloween than a black-and-orange milkshake.” We won’t say boo to that.
2 1/2 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 1/2 oz. (45 mL) Jack Daniels
1/2 oz. (15 mL) Grand Marnier
Orange food colouring
Spoon ice cream into a blender. Add whisky and liqueur, a splash of milk and a drop of food colouring and blend. Gradually add more milk until desired thickness is reached.
For a variation with a black stripe, add:
1 1/2 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 oz Sambuca
Black Food Colouring
Allison Hurley waved her mixologist’s wand to conjure up this frighteningly decadent booze-and-milk concoction. To make your creation truly spooktacular, she suggests this garnish: “Take a chocolate Hershey’s Kiss and a flat, round chocolate wafer and stick them together
to make a witch hat!”
