Saturday: Day 3

Running Out of Angels Cocktail Event; Remy’s

Overlooking Yorkville’s crowds of star-gazers, on the rooftop of Remy’s, rising indie-darling Noah Segan (best know for his role in Rian Johnson’s Brick) and company celebrated the pre-production of Running Out of Angels expected out next year. In town to both promote his film Dead Girl, part of TIFF’s Midnight Madness series and to support Johnson’s megawatt film, The Brother’s Bloom starring Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz (not to mention a cameo by Segan himself), the actor and the film’s uber hip LA production team mingled with suited investors to the sound of 90’s tunes including “Pretty Fly For a White Guy” by The Offspring and Beck’s “Loser.” Considering the cocktail event was titled a Y2K party, it seems safe to assume that Running Out of Angels is going to be something of an exploration into 90’s alterna-culture – the ideal excuse to dig out the flannel and Doc Martins.

Hollywood Life House

A must stop for all stars in town for the festival, the Hollywood Life House is a film festival landmark, transporting its gifting lounge everywhere from the snowy peaks of Sundance in Utah to Toronto’s own TIFF. As always, the venue houses red carpet ready goodies such as Parasuco branded dark denim, nicely matched with the new and improved French connection fall 08 line, featuring an even higher grade material then before i.e. cashmere blends that caress the skin.

During my own visit I’m relegated to the bar (where champagne flows from morning to evening) due to a last minute drop in paid by a Mr. Geoffrey Rush, recently flown in to do press for , the TIFF veteran’s 08 contribution. One sparking water and five smoked salmon laced crostinis later, it’s my turn to visit the Hamilton watch table. After viewing the plethora of offerings – titanium rose gold, mother of pearl, diamond encrusted – I see why Mr. Rush lingered around the table as long as he did. Women who have coveted their boyfriend’s/husband’s watches as long and full-heartedly as they have their jeans, will rejoice in the trend in oversized faces for women’s watches, flawless demonstrated by the latest designs in Hamilton’s current collection.

More to come … stay tuned!

Coopers Camera Official After Party

Ex-pats Samantha Bee and Jason Jones drew in crowds of homegrown talent to the Cooper’s Camera after party. A festival hit, the comedy has TIFF audiences laughing out loud at the lude and eccentric world of the Coopers during one fateful Christmas day. The two Daily Show actors toasted their success with costars and other fellow Canadian actors including Natalie Brown, the lovely star of CBC’s Sophie, and Kevin MacDonald of Kids in the Hall fame, as well as hip love/song birds Dan Krutz and Martina Sorbara of Canada’s Dragonette. Visiting celebs including model Matt Felker, perhaps better known for his tabloid charm as Selma Blair’s once long time flame (and least we need not forget his spot in Britney Spears hot Toxic video) were also in attendance. Dressed in jeans, a leather jacket and a expertly wrapped printed scarf, a chill Felker hung out on the front patio of Lobby, watching on as party goers waited in line to have their picture snapped with Santa.
