It was inevitable, really – on a trip where they cavort with puppies and hang with stuffed toys, it was only a matter of time before the royals had their pictures taken with a few marsupials. It did not go well.

On Monday Australian time, the royal family visited the Taronga Zoo, and met with some frankly-less-than enthused native animals. Can you blame them for feeling a little Republican, when, for the first time in the entire tour, Kate wore a previously-seen-outfit. That’s right – on the day when she gets a chance to meet some unique, found-nowhere-else-close-to-extinction creatures, she just threw on some old thing she wore in the Solomon Islands a few years ago.

As you can see in the picture above, this koala was NOT impressed. According to sources (our imagination), the meet-and-greet really went downhill when Wills kept asking if he could see what was inside his pouch.

Their next stop, this time with George, was not a success either. Sources (again our imagination) report that tension was high even before the visit started – the exhibit, which is populated by a rare Australian marsupial, was opened to commemorate the little prince’s birth. Which is great – excepting the bilbies are not impressed at the caveat: they’ve all had to change their name to George, even the girls.

But they did grudgingly acknowledge the tiny prince did look cute in his Rachel Riley ensemble.
