TIFF JOURNAL: The festival's A-list drink

Black Swan as a blackberry cocktail. Why not?

This festival, Laura deCarufel and Jennifer Lee, the co-editors of Hardly magazine , have the high honour of reporting from TIFF’s coolest events. Stay tuned for party coverage, cocktail recommendations, and behind-the-scenes scoop! How much fun would it be to create a cocktail inspired by Black Swan? Almost as much fun as it is to drink it—that's my guess after taste-testing the blackberry-and-ginger concoction at Saturday night's Vanity Fair, Belvedere and Fox Searchlight party. Darren Aronofsky, the director of Black Swan, liked it so much that he requested the recipe! So did we, and we're sharing it with you. In honour of tonight's gala premiere of the hotly anticipated film, check out the official Black Swan cocktail recipe. Ingredients 175 mL freshly pressed black cherry juice 1 ¼ cup blackberries 10 limes Extra fine white sugar Fresh ginger Water Our step-by-step instructions for creating the cocktail after the jump! How to make Black Limonade Place black cherry juice and blackberries in a blender to make a smooth puree. Mix 120 mL of white sugar with 60 mL of water to create simple syrup. Squeeze 10 limes into simple syrup mixture. Add an additional 120 mL of water to the mixture and stir. Add simple syrup mixture to black cherry/blackberry puree and blend together. Use a garlic press to create one tablespoon of freshly pressed ginger. Add to mixture and stir together. [caption id="attachment_1205" align="aligncenter" width="332" caption="The signature drinks list featuring the Black Swan."] [/caption] How to put it all together Wet the outside rim of a highball glass with a fresh lime wedge.  Fill a saucer or bowl with sugar and dab the rim into the sugar while slowly turning the glass so that only the outer edge is covered. Fill glass with ice. Add 1 ½ oz Belvedere Vodka and top with Black Limonade. Enjoy!
