ELLE Cocktail: La Condesa

This refreshing cocktail, created by Manny Contreras of Toronto’s El Caballito, pays homage to the beauty of the female form: The name means “The Countess.” So, this Cinco de Mayo, let’s raise a toast to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. La Condesa’s zingy citrus calls to mind Kahlo’s signature bold palette, while the tequila is punchy enough to put some hair between those brows.

Meet the mixmaster

La Paloma, a grapefruit-based cocktail loved in Mexico, was Manny Contreras’ inspiration when he created La Condesa. “I wanted to take it to the next level,” he says. The result? A “fresh and delicious” blend of tequila, grapefruit and limoncello. But be warned: “It’s dangerous!” says Contreras. “La Condesa is a strong drink, but you don’t feel the heat of the booze.” GALLERY: 7 healthy teas to drink
