The glitz and glamour of seeing some of Canada’s best dancers-in-training perform against the swish backdrop of an Art Deco-ed-out Arcadian Court & Loft can only mean one thing:
Canada’s National Ballet School’s annual fundraiser gala is inspired by all things Gatsby. This year’s soirée, which is expected to bring in $800,000 to help support the school’s financial assistance programs, features exclusive performances by NBS students, class-act raffle prizes and a Gatsby casino and lounge. We chatted with Brittany McLeod, the NBS’s developments officer, events, for a rundown of the ultra-swank evening and the opportunities it helps provide to students.
What does the annual gala mean for Canada’s National Ballet School? "It is an important event that introduces influential and supportive individuals to the School’s mission and helps to raise the profile of the work that we do. It also provides a performance opportunity for the students; which is a key part of their ongoing training. Canada’s National Ballet School is a formal training institution, so there aren’t very many opportunities for the public to experience our student’s as they perform. This is what set’s our gala a part from other fundraising dinners for both students and guests alike."
