The Movies:Warner Bros. hosted an advance look at Quebec-born director Denis Villeneuve’s newest thriller,
Prisoners, in the luxurious Shangri-la screening room. Not what you’d call a ‘feel-good film,’
Prisoners is a crushing, but worthwhile experience. You know a movie’s good when seasoned film critics squirm in their seats and walk out of the theatre in a traumatized daze. Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a stellar performance as a detective investigating the disappearance of two young girls, while Hugh Jackman plays the perfect grieving parent gone mad (Oscar buzz already abound). Seriously, Jackman’s rage in this film makes Wolverine look like a pussycat. Emotionally devastating and full of twists, this is not a film you see to be entertained, but rather because it’s damn good.
