Prisoners gave media a little insight into the film at a Warner Bros. press conference at the Shangri-La Hotel. When asked how they dealt with the film’s dark material, Hugh Jackman joked, “Afterwards, we’d drink… actually Jake was drinking during [filming], only in the morning scenes, of course!” On a more serious note, Jake Gyllenhaal admitted to struggling a little, “There were a number of times on the way to work where I could feel myself resist how dark this world was… sometimes it would panic me.” Gyllenhaal also had high praise for co-star Paul Dano, who has a series of scenes in the movie where you can only see one of his eyes. “There’s more performance in that one eye than all of us put together.” Gyllenhaal also had the press laughing with his hilarious impressions of French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve. who he joked is a “great filmmaker,” but a not so great public speaker.
