Editor’s Pick: Treccani Milano Croc Riding Boot

It’s winter, I get it. I know I’m supposed to love the cold, frigid days, the wet flurries of mid-January, and rolling handfuls of freezing snow into round spheres and hurling them in a gaggle of laughter – you know, all things “Canadian”. But reality is, I just can’t. I’ve tried, I swear, but warm sunny days are more my fancy. That’s why this week’s Object of Desire is the Treccani Milano Croc Riding Boot, a perfect way to celebrate the heat wave that’s making it’s way through Toronto. What’s even more alluring about these buttery boots? They are custom-made in Italy and sold in Treccani’s Toronto studio. +12 on Sat, bring it on!

Eco Highlighter Pencil Yellow Editors Pick: Yellow Eco Highlighter, $2

Ok, I don’t miss school at all. Being an adult is comparatively much better (I make my own rules now! Pretty much. Aside from, like, laws and whatever.)

Here’s what I do miss: back to school shopping. I still go and get crisp new notebooks (because, let’s face it, I’m a word nerd) and fancy pens.

And I’m happy to share that these chic environmentally friendly pencil highlighters are in my basket already—partly because they’re ingenious and partly because they’ll look great in my pencil holder.

Editor’s Pick: Arlo Sofa from Anthropologie, $3,298

by

object of desire6 1024x393 Editor’s Pick: Arlo Sofa from Anthropologie, $3,298 Arlo Web1 Editor’s Pick: Arlo Sofa from Anthropologie, $3,298

I have a move coming up, so the theme of the month for me has been “out with the old, in with the new”. It started with something as simple as buying some new pyjamas and has led to me ditching my couch and lusting after a replacement. The obvious first step was to set the bar high and visit Anthropologie. The bar ended up shooting way up to the penthouse floor in a private elevator, but a girl can dream, right?

This gorgeous Arlo sofa is the kind of piece that you build an apartment around. My roommate and I fell in love with the idea of wearing digitally manipulated photos of faraway places back when designers like Dries Van Noten and Peter Pilotto showed wave-printed garments for Spring/Summer 2012. It was only natural that this trend would translate so beautifully into home décor. While the Arlo may be possibly the least practical sofa of all time (“Sorry, is that a rum and coke? Take a seat on the floor please”), I can’t stop daydreaming about this (literally) picturesque, museum-worthy piece of furniture. The best dreams take place on canals anyway, so why not set the scene by curling up for a cat nap on this gorgeous Venetian waterscape?

Now that I think about it, this may be the exact spot on the Grand Canal where I once fell for a tall, slender gondolier named Roman. Damn, he looked good in stripes. I bet he’d look great on this sofa too. What can I say? That’s amore.

Arlo sofa, $3,298, limited quantities available at anthropologie.com .

erdem Editors Pick: Nicholas Kirkwood for Erdem pumps ($1,395)

We had these pumps on set at a recent cover shoot and at first, I was like, “What? No. No lucite heels.”

Then I looked at them again and was literally struck down with love.

Seriously, guys. Just when you think that pumps will never be cool again, these boys change the game by making Guggenheim-worthy heels.

So I guess my secret is out: I like lucite.

Editor’s Pick: Tom Binns necklace, $1,475

object of desire1 1024x393 Editors Pick: Tom Binns necklace, $1,475

RE1065 – TOM BINNS DESIGN – RAINBOW’S END COLLECTION – AW12 1024x1017 Editors Pick: Tom Binns necklace, $1,475As a redhead, I’m not usually at one with the neon trend. Highlighter hues are dangerous territory for those of us with reddish hair and freckles. But even I can’t resist this incredible Tom Binns necklace in eye-searing neon blue, orange and yellow. Binns is best known for his pop-punk aesthetic—everyone from Michelle Obama to Rihanna has been spotted sporting his pieces, which often feature hand-painted skulls and safety pin detailing.  With this bad-boy around my neck, there’s no denying I could make an—er—colourful statement!

X-Large Multicoloured necklace with Silver Skull in Sterling Silver Plated Brass, Crystal and Epoxy Resin, $1,475, Available at the Tom Binns Megastore.

Editor’s Pick: Charlene Court Mounted Fluorite Octahedral Ring $752

by

object of desire9 Editors Pick: Charlene Court Mounted Fluorite Octahedral Ring $752LuciteRing Editors Pick: Charlene Court Mounted Fluorite Octahedral Ring $752

Beauty in a raw form, the lavender-tinted stone in this fluorite octahendral ring looks like it was plucked right from the earth. The ring–gritty yet polished–features metals harvested from the archives of famed San Francisco-based Arthur Court’s decor house back in the ’60s. Mounted on a sleek 14-karat gold band, it’s the perfect accent to any outfit.

I’d wear this ring with a plain white T and dark denim for a casual daytime ensemble or pair it with a tailored cocktail dress for a chic evening look.

Editor’s Pick: Eliza Kozurno earrings, $115

Eliza Kozurno1 Editors Pick: Eliza Kozurno earrings, $115

I remember the moment that I first came across Eliza Kozurno, the Toronto jewellery line. It was in Chasse Gardée (RIP), the incredible Toronto shoe store which also sold a carefully curated selection of jewellery. Kozurno’s pieces on display that day were leather harnesses and beaded halters, an haute gothic mix that was also elegant and totally original. I had that wonderful feeling that everyone who works in fashion hopes for: The discovery of a true talent.

These earrings are a softer entry point into the Kozurno world. How pretty would they look at an afternoon picnic, the bugle beads catching the sun, or at a summer soirée, candlelight reflected in the crystal glass?

Editor’s Pick: Lise Watier Portfolio Professional Corrector Palette, $31

Lise Watier Portfolio Professional Corrector, $31

A few weeks ago, beauty editors gathered at Crush Wine Bar in Toronto to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Canadian beauty-brand Lise Watier. Amid cheerful talk of plans for our long weekends and toasting Madame Watier’s entrepreneurial success a palpable undercurrent of tension circulated our table.

The cause of such animosity: the Lise Watier Portfolio Professional Corrector Palette ($31).

Madame Watier’s most iconic products (including the Féline Eyeliner HD) were sprinkled throughout the room, but it was this wheel-of-wonder that had every editor’s perfectly manicured hand inching towards it.

Yes friends, it is that good.

For anyone who suffers from redness, the occasional blemish or, in my case, an ever-present gloom of dark circles, this corrector wheel can instantly brighten eyes, make you look well rested (which after a night spent sipping sangria on a patio is crucial), and give you clear radiant skin that lasts all day.

Apply the green to counteract redness.

Lilac brightens your complexion.

Brown contours and sculpts (say hello to cheekbones).

Diminishes the appearance of blue veins and dark circles with the yellowish beige.

Hide dark circles with ivory.

Editor’s pick: Fueguia bespoke fragrance

by

object of desire1 Editors pick: Fueguia bespoke fragranceimage2 Editors pick: Fueguia bespoke fragrance
Nestled in a 19th-century building in the ultra chic neighbourhood of Palermo, Buenos Aires lies Fueguia, a quaint Laboratorio de Perfumes. Dimly lit and filled with misting beakers, it creates the impression not of walking into a science lab, but into someone’s home.

I was at Fueguia with my sartorially advanced cousin (a BA native and multi-Miu Miu-pump owner), who hoped to select her perfect scent. It’s the place to do it—dedicated to featuring local ingredients, the perfumery boasts dozens of perfectly concocted scents and candles.

Still, the true luxury is the bespoke perfumery option, for which a dedicated perfumer helps you create a custom blend from over 1,500 different notes. The end result—a unique and individual fragrance—is packaged in a wooden box (crafted by carpentry students from fallen trees from the Patagonia forest), artfully fused from local Argentine ingredients.

If, like me, you’re intimidated by the large selection of notes, head to Fueguia for the sole purpose of snatching up a Caramel Candle. You can indulge in the country’s quintessential sweet, dulce de leche—without the guilt!

Launched by The Royal Mail Service in May, it honours 10 of the most prominent British fashion houses including Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood. I love the graphic elegance of the outfits, shot by acclaimed photographer Solve Sundsbo.
