I will restrain from writing this blog post in shouty caps, but please know that this is a SHOUTY CAPS situation, beauty people. Makeup artist Peter Philips is the new Creative Director for Christian Dior. Image via IMAXtree

Peter Philips, the tremendously talented visionary and former Global Creative Director for Chanel, has signed as the Creative and Image Director for Christian Dior Makeup. The Belgian makeup artist is widely viewed in the industry as the best in the business, and is the man in charge of the looks you see on the runways of the Chanel, Dries van Noten, Fendi and McQueen shows. His understanding of makeup and innovation is one of the things that sets him apart from competitors – he created Chanel’s famous Jade Le Vernis which was wait-listed around the world, and launched groundbreaking lipstick and lightweight super-luxe foundation formulas. When I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing him, he has always offered a thoughtful, considered approach to his art. (Sam McKnight told me he considers him an absolute genius. No small praise considering the source.)

I can’t wait to see what he does with the house of Dior.

Philips had this to say on the new gig: “I am honored by the responsibilities that are entrusted to me by Christian Dior Makeup, whose values, savoir-faire and innovation I respect. I am very excited to work with all the teams involved and immerse myself in the world of Dior”.
