Chateau shut-out
Here are all of the things people are saying about Lindsay Lohan this week:
1) She’s banned from the Chateau Marmont because she failed to pay a bill, to the tune of $46,000.
2) She trashed Liz Taylor’s original trailer from the filming of Cleopatra. Apparently the place was filled with cigarette burns and (of course) missing valuable antiques.
3) She swiped jewelry from a millionaire’s house, but he’s not pressing charges cause he’s in love with her (!!!??!) That’s going to end badly.
Verdict: Plus ça change…single tear!
Zoe sad, too bad
Rachel Zoe’s fashion line is on the rocks, according to Page Six. Last summer she launched her first collection with retail giant Li & Fung, but in spite of a huge marketing push it’s failed to sell at department stores. Also, apparently Zoe’s reality show on Bravo has not been picked up again, while former Zoe assistant Brad Goreski’s reality show It’s a Brad Brad World has locked in a second season.
Verdict: Slow clap because we love Brad
Surprise Ouster
Sally Singer is out at T, the magazine she’s helmed for the last two years. The reason? Apparently, ad sales were down and she didn’t get along with top New York Times editors. Names that have been thrown out as a potential replacement include Deborah Needleman (from WSJ) and Stuart Emmrich (NYT Style section)
Verdict: We’re excited to see what Sally does next.

I’ve long been a fan of ’20s style. It was the first time women’s fashion reflected a screw-you-I’m-wearing-what-I-want attitude, so those drop waists and high necklines bring more to mind than just a roaring-fun decade. And it’s partly why I love this ring so much. From Dyment’s Gatsby collection, it harkens back to an era of prohibition, hedonistic parties and a culture that was bursting with post-war joie de vivre. Plus, it’s ever so pretty.

Ok, I don’t miss school at all. Being an adult is comparatively much better (I make my own rules now! Pretty much. Aside from, like, laws and whatever.)
Here’s what I do miss: back to school shopping. I still go and get crisp new notebooks (because, let’s face it, I’m a word nerd) and fancy pens.
And I’m happy to share that these chic environmentally friendly pencil highlighters are in my basket already—partly because they’re ingenious and partly because they’ll look great in my pencil holder.

Don’t even think about going into fall without a Carine Roitfeld approved smokey eye. And throw a little “contoured cheek” in there while you’re at it, dahlink.
You can get the French don’t-give-a-chic look courtesy of the former French Vogue editor’s 21-piece limited editon collaboration with MAC Cosmetics. My favourite item is the covetable, wearable and straight up amazing MAC Full Face Kit in Jungle Camouflage ($52), which includes four shades of matte and satin eyeshadows from soft taupe to satin beige, and a warm caramel bronzer. It’s also the only palette I’m carting with me next week to NYFW.
Carine Roitfeld for MAC Cosmetics Full Face Kit in Jungle Camouflage ($52), available online at maccosmetics.com later this week, or in stores on September 6.
PS: Roitfeld says it’s okay to sleep in your mascara so that you wake up looking “tired sexy.”

If you’re an ELLE Canada subscriber (hey, if you’re not, what up!?) you’ll notice a change this month. For the first time in our history, we’re offering our subscribers their own cover. Finding two cover-worthy shots of Sarah Gadon was easy. Aside from having truly flawless skin—sorry, but you can’t blame her good looks on Photoshop—Sarah was one of the most charming and easy-going people to shoot. She was more than willing to take on the role of rebel—and the setting at Evergreen Brick Works set the perfect mood. Which is your fave shot?

With summer coming to an end, I’m already battling the end of season blues. My solution to beating seasonal depression? Spend my day planning (or more accurately, fantasizing about planning) an impromptu retreat to a place where summer is eternal. Be it a jaunt to Saint Barts or a week of island hoping around the Aegean, Miguelina’s clothing collection—which features semi-sheer, lace-detailed dresses, caftans and separates—is a seamless choice for any summer hiatus. The best thing about the collection? These dresses look elegant whether you’re relaxing by the poolside bar or you’re out for a romantic dinner (either in Mykonos or your local diner).
