I’m like a crazy person when it comes to glycolic products for the body. I’m owning my cray, too. It is out there, and I’m okay with that.
The reason I go a little freakazoid-robots-please-report-to-the-dance-floor about them? Because they work so well.
In regular people speak, glycolic = exfoliator. By now, everyone knows the difference regular exfoliation can make to your skin – it becomes instantly softer and smoother and creams used afterwards are better absorbed.
A glycolic (also known as an AHA – or alpha hydroxy acid) is a chemical version of the manual scrubs you use in the shower. The difference is that a chemical one gives a more even exfoliation, has anti-aging benefits (improves discolouration), and is amazing at helping to clear ingrown hairs too.
Dermaglow Glycolic 10% Body Cream ($34) makes me happy. Here’s why:
- It’s got a 10% glycolic acid complex- enough to make a difference, but not so much acid it’s going to make you feel like you’ve been doused in gasoline.
- It’s non-irritating and has the correct pH balance – a key factor in the efficacy of an AHA is to have a pH of between 3 and 4. (This one is between 3.5-3.8.)
- It smells citrusy-fresh and is perfect for using all over – but especially on the upper arms, elbows, bum and knees. This will smooth out anywhere that gets a little rough or ashy, kill flakiness and remove dead cell build up.
Within a few days you’ll really notice a difference and they’ll be no turning back. I look forward to making your acquaintance at the next Glycolic Addicts Roundtable.
