Beauty looks we loved from Day 2 (buns, orange and the best nails!)
Day 2 at LG Fashion Week was certainly bustling … with Denis Gagnon showing in the afternoon, followed by Pink Tartan and Joe Fresh in the evening, it was the one day that truly could not be missed. But we didn’t just catch front row action on the runway. We headed backstage to get the latest hair and beauty trends for Fall 2011, and we loved what we saw. Check out the shrapnel-esque nails at Pink Tartan below (easily must be the best nail so far this week), The orange/pink washed eyes at Denis Gagnon, plus the soft beauty at Joe Fresh. And btw, we adore the high buns at Pink Tartan as well. Here are a few of our favourite backstage snaps from Day 2.

As far as beauty is concerned, IZMA really opened LG Fashion Week with a statement. Following the collection’s “fur innovation” theme (and there was loads of fur to be seen mixed in with sequins and jumpsuits), the L’Oreal makeup and hair pros behind the stage gave the models a femme fatale look with deep ruby lips, sculpted smoky eyes and curly hair teased into a bob that reminded me of a less frizzy version of Marc by Marc Jabobs‘ spring 2011 look.
Take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think! Then stay tuned on our blogs today for more backstage beauty snaps and tips from Denis Gagnon’s show.

It seems like every celebrity is joining in on the create-your-own-nail-polish craze. We have to say we loved Katy Perry’s (and even a few of Justin Bieber’s), so we’re actually excited to see what tennis star Serena Williams will come up with.
The tennis ace plans to release the OPI Glam Slam! France collection – which is comprised of two shades, Spark de Triomphe in glittery silver and Rally Pretty Pink – in time for May’s French Open competition. Each colour comes with a Shatter polish which provides a broken or shattered effect as it dries.
Serena said: “Whether I’m on or off the court, style is important. In addition to watching the runways for the latest trends, I think it’s important to add my own unique elements.
“With the new White and Red Shatter, I can customize my nails for a high-fashion take on the classically elegant silver and sunset shades in the Glam Slam! France collection.” Read the rest of this entry

I adored the super rosy, bronzed glow at the Michael Kors Spring/Summer runway. The heavy blush and fresh skin has me dreaming of summer beach days already and I was dying to know how to apply the colour without going overboard. So, I chatted with M.A.C Senior Artist, Caitlin Callahan, to learn how to recreate this glowing spring beauty look.

The look: Michael Kors’ summer girls. “This is a perfect look for spring — easy, youthful and glowing!” says Caitlin.
Caitlin’s tips:
Step 1: Foundation
You’ll need to start with flawless skin. Caitlin recommends one that gives a natural finish, but still covers well to hide any imperfections (M.A.C Studio Sculpt Foundation is a great example). “Don’t go lighter or darker than your skin tone,” Caitlin warns. “Choose a colour that matches you exactly, then apply starting in the center of the face and blend out. This gives a flawless yet perfected look.”
Step 2: Softly apply bronzer
“If you want a bit more colour, softly (softly, I said!) add a golden bronzer to frame your face.” says Caitlin. “Mineral bronzers are the most sheer. M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish/Natural in Give Me Sun! is a fab option. It doesn’t have the sparkle that other bronzers have, so the look is more natural. For a bit more glow under the eyes, add concealer and set with a translucent powder.”

The seventies took ownership of the runways this spring and our closets are craving a major redux. We’re divorcing our skinny denims (for the interim; they’ll likely come back someday) and fantisizing about an illicit affair with their alter-ego: The wide-legged pant. Dries Van Noten showed versions of it in fluid fabrics: so louche, so now; Hermes rose the waistline - and the bar – with their expertly tailored trousers cuffed and pleated to perfection.

It doesn’t stop there. Others took note of this trend and reinterpreted it on their own watch: Jil Sander, Maz Azria, Donna Karan … and H&M? Believe it. Their store shelves are brimming with this, this, and this. Want it? Get it now; fall 2011 is just around the corner.

From runway to the highway: the smart car is the LBD of autos
- Noreen Flanagan takes a spin in the Smart Car
I’ve not had “wheels” for some time. When I moved to Toronto 13 years ago my husband and I ditched our old truck. (We had spent nine months driving around Central America and it was ready to be retired from the road.) We’ve rented cars when we needed them and that auto-strategy seemed to be working. But then I got the chance to drive around in one of the Smart Cars we had on display at our recent 10th anniversary party. It’s adorable and chic— I’ve decided it’s the LBD of cars. If you haven’t entered to win our Smart Car giveway yet, it’s only one click away.
