Come undone: messy hair is soft and sexy.
Stars like Drew Barrymore and Lindsay Lohan are pairing their couture gowns with dishevelled updos because "it looks youthful," says Harry Josh, a New York-and L.A.-based celebrity stylist for Suave. "Messy hair shows that you're not trying too hard to impress." And, it's just as easy to create this style as it looks.
1. Wash and condition the hair, then massage a hair-thickening lotion and a mouse into the scalp to starch up the hair and hold the style. Blow-dry the hair, using fingers to lift it away from the scalp.
2.Gather it into a ponytail, and fasten it with an elastic. Twist the pony into a loose bun, securing it with pins.
3."Mess it up by lightly running your hands from the bun toward your face, freeing stray hairs," says Josh. Add separation to loose pieces with texturizing paste, and finish with hairspray.
Gold star: brighten up your look with shots of golden hair colour.
"This season, hair is all about natural-looking blonde highlights," says Rita Hazan, a New York-based celebrity colourist. "Sleek hair shows off the colour best and adds sophistication." Here's what you need to know before turning yourself into Goldilocks.
Salon-goers should ask their colourist for variations of their natural shade to add depth and dimension to tresses. Blondes look best with baby-blond highlights; redheads should request strawberry-blond tones. Brunettes can get the look by lightening their base colour to a chocolate brown and adding honey tones.
For at-home highlights, try one of the latest kits. "Style hair as you would normally, selecting the sections to be lightened to ensure the colour goes exactly where you want it," says Hazan. Then go for the gold!
