4 things to know about Lise Watier's new skincare line

By: Vanessa Craft
Beauty director Vanessa headed to Fogo Island, N.L., (brr!) to attend the launch of a new protective skincare line from Lise Watier. Here’s what she discovered:

1. ALGAE EXTRACT HAS NO CHILL
Gaspé algae, a seaweed found along the cold northeastern part of the Atlantic coast, developed a highly efficient system in order to survive in such extreme conditions. If harvested during the fall, it contains a higher active molecule concentration than at any other time of the year.

2. KEEP SKIN HYDRATED AT ALL COSTS
The skin experts at Lise Watier discovered that extracts from this algae (also known as Laminaria saccharina) help reinforce the skin’s protective barrier and prevent water loss. That’s why it’s the hero ingredient in the Hydraforce line—which includes two soothing moisturizers and a protective lip balm.

3. OTHER THINGS FROM THE SEA WORTH APPRECIATING
Sushi; spas with seaweed body wraps; mermaids.

4. PUTTING UP BARRIERS ISN'T ALWAYS A BAD THING
If you live in a part of Canada where it gets cold (#obvious), you’re going to have to make your skin a little more anti-social and block the cold winds and dry air from having any quality time together. This means using richer, more hydrating products than you normally would. If you have oily skin, go for a gel-cream; it’s lightweight yet effective at protecting your skin from the elements.
