Naeem Khan

The look: We’re still in awe of the ’70s and ’80s inspired collection Naeem Khan presented at New York Fashion Week. “The nude and pink ombrè nails are a reflection of spring’s vibrant colour palate,” says Khan.

DIY: File your nails into an almond shape, or use KISS Salon Acrylic Nude French Nails ($10.50, walmart.com). Create your own custom colour like KISS nail artist Gina Edwards did by mixing a drop of KISS Gel Strong Polish in Sweet Angel and French White ($4, kissnypro.com). Finish with KISS Gel Strong Topcoat ($4, kissnypro.com).

Michael Costello

The look: Essie Canada Lead Nail Artist Rita Remark created this look for Michael Costello’s glamorous Spring 2017 collection. It was as though the models had just stepped out of a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.

DIY: Using Essie nail polish, Remark created a dipped metallic ombré look on a square shaped nail.

Christian Siriano

The look: Inspired by a summer getaway on the Isle of Capri, Christian Siriano’s Spring 2017 collection is filled with bold colours, inspired by “the turquoise waters and citrus orange-stripe umbrella-lined beaches of the Tyrrhenian Sea.” *Sigh* To complement the clothing, celebrity manicurist and KISS brand ambassador Gina Edwards created an asymmetrical, turquoise nail with strong black and white stripes.

DIY: For that perfect nail shape (that’s literally impossible to file yourself), use KISS imPRESS Gel Manicure in Big Flirt ($7.99, kissusa.com). Use a stencil to draw a thin black diagonal line across the nail. Paint vertical stripes along the tip of the nail, and horizontal stripes on the lower side of the nail, altering between black and white colours. Finish with two coats of KISS Gel Strong Nail Polish ($2.99 kissusa.com).

Self Portrait

The look: Rita Remark created a matte nail that complemented Self Portrait’s yellow and nude toned collection. We can totally picture every downtown Toronto norm-core girl rocking this alt-nail look come spring.

DIY: This nail has just a hint of shimmer, so use a colour like Essie Sheer in shade Au Natural ($8.50, essie.com), and let air dry. Paint a top coat of Essie Matte About You ($8.50, essie.com), over the nails to add a little but of texture. Pro Tip: If you weren’t blessed with flawless nail beds and need a little extra help before you pull out the polish, try using Essie Fill The Gap base coat ($10, essie.com) to smooth any ridges or bumps.

Rebecca Minkoff

The look: Celebrity manicurist Michelle Saunders created a modern french manicure for the Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2017. The look was inspired by “the eclectic cool girl vibes” showcased in Minkoff’s line.

DIY: Apply Essie Nail Polish in Go Go Geisha to just the ring fingers, and Essie Nail Polish in Maki Me Happy ($9, essie.com) to the remainder of the nails. Swap the colours for the tips of fingers, applying Maki Me Happy on the ring fingers, and Go Go Geisha across the other nails.

Altuzarra

The look: Joseph Altuzarra was inspired by the ’90s film Wild at Heart for his Spring 2017 collection. Manicurist Julie Kandalec created a pretty, understated mani with pink undertones.

DIY: This manicure proves that less is often more. Apply two coats of Essie Nail Polish in Hi Maintenance, and finish with a top coat of Essie Good To Go ($9, essie.com).

Alexander Wang

The look: The nails for Wang’s Spring 2017 runway show were inspired by the “quintessential beach bum who spends their day playing in the sand.” Celebrity manicurist Michelle Saunders created a gorgeous matte nude nail that appeared to have been “sanded down effect from days spent sunning at the beach.”

DIY: Coat nails with one layer of Essie Cocktails and Coconuts, followed by one layer of Au Natural ($9, essie.com). Let nails air dry, and follow with one coat of Matte About You top coat ($8.50, essie.com), for that buffed down effect.

Jeremy Scott

The look: Eighties vibes ruled the runway at Jeremy Scott’s 2017 show, from asymmetrical hair cuts, circle skirts – right down to the nail art. Brightly coloured polishes were used to create polka dots on the nails of each and every model, a look that was oh… so… Jeremy Scott.

DIY: Editorial and celebrity nail artist Miss. Pop created this look using a plethora of bright OPI polishes. Start with two solid coats of your chosen basecoat color (this model is wearing OPI We’re In The Black), and then use a dotting tool to create the polka dot. We love OPI’s yellow shade I Just Can’t Cope-acabana ($8.50, walmart.com).

Jenny Packham

The look: Essie Nail artist Michelle Saunders wanted to create a nail look that would both flatter every look in the collection while appealing to the fashionable set.

DIY: Apply two coats of Essie Nail Polish in Tuck It In My Tux For Base ($9, essie.com). Finish with a coat of Essie Matte About You Top Coat ($8.50, essie.com). Saunders used the matte effect to mimic the white fabric used in the collection.
