The first characteristic of a good beauty product is that it does its job: smooth, detangle, hydrate, buff, what have you. A pleasing aesthetic is a close second. When makeup artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis was developing her line, Kjaer Weis, she turned to designer Marc Atlan to create packaging that would respect the sustainable ethos of her brand without looking like a traditional natural product.

It was a two-year undertaking to develop the weighty refillable compacts made of Zamac (a combination of zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copper) that slide open and closed with a satisfying click. “We spent so much time on getting the click!” says Kjaer Weis, who recalls cross-country phone discussions with Atlan to ensure the sound was to their liking. “All the little details matter.”
