The power of probiotics may help your psyche as well as your stomach. A study published in the Psychiatry Research journal found that eating fermented foods such as yogurt and kimchi may help to decrease social anxiety. Researchers have yet to understand why such a correlation occurs.

SWEAT LIKE SALMA?
I work with a woman in London who taught me how to hold my body in a way where the muscles are activated all day long. So even when you brush your teeth, you're working the muscles," bombshell Salma Hayek recently revealed to People magazine on her study of restorative yoga. Before you rush to sign up to this seemingly no-sweat workout, we asked Toronto-based personal trainer Brent Bishop whether or not the practice will yield results. “If you are looking for toning and weight loss, restorative yoga alone will not get you there,” he says, adding that, to reduce body fat and increase muscle, you need incorporate strength and cardiovascular training into workouts. The practice, however, does help posture, prevent injuries and incorporate mindfulness.

To wax or not to wax? For women, it’s a question of personal taste. For men, it may be a question of evolution. A new study out of the University of Waterloo, published in the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality, has suggested that men may link women’s untrimmed pubic hair with infertility. (Historically, increased testosterone in women is associated with excess hair and fertility issues.) Our takeaway from this below-the-belt experiment: do whatever works for you.

A PURR-FECT EXCUSE TO PROCRASTINATE

Watching Grumpy Cat can make you feel a lot happier. A study from Indiana University Media School quizzed almost 7,000 people about how they felt after watching one of the 2 million (!) cat videos people have posted on YouTube. (Our favourite? Cats scaring babies.) Several reported they felt more positive and had fewer unhappy emotions (including anxiety and sadness) after tuning in. Not even the threat of procrastination outweighed their feelings of joy. Time to tell the boss…
