Spring hair special

The spring and summer runways brought the updo to new heights. Here are some of the best looks that will add some sophistication to your spring and summer looks.

Twisted tale
The look
“I wanted to contrast the feminine collection with a boyish, groomed updo,” says T3's Orlando Pita of the look he created for Carolina Herrera. “It's the perfect classy yet sweet updo.”

How to get it
Apply a volumizing spray to wet hair, comb it through and blow-dry. Create an off-centre side part and then, on one side, take about half an inch of hair from the front of your head and twist it inward, taking half-inch sections and incorporating them into the twist. Secure the twisted hair with bobby pins; continue until you reach the middle of the neck and repeat on the other side. At the back, pull hair into a ponytail or wrap it around and fasten with bobby pins for a polished bun. Finish with a medium-strength hairspray.

Pretty punk
The look
The hair at the spring 2009 Oscar de la Renta show was a study in contrasts, says Justin German, a Pantene Pro-V consulting stylist and co-owner of Shagg Salon in Toronto. “It's pretty, soft and hard at the same time,” he says.

How to get it
Apply volumizing mousse to wet hair and blow-dry upside down. Add a few Velcro rollers to the top section of the hair. After five minutes, remove the rollers and backcomb hair from the roots. Gather hair at the sides and nape of the neck and twist it in an upward motion, securing with bobby pins. Pull out a few pieces of hair around the face. Blend the hair at the crown into the twist. Set hair with finishing spray and use gel to smooth the sides.
