Hair lust

The look: Christian Dior, big '60s-inspired beehive hair

Ideal for: "This is a very, very hot look right now," explains Terry Ritcey, director of education for Redken. "It works best on someone with no bangs (you could do it with bangs and just brush them up and blend them in). It's great for evening, cocktail parties or going out. Your traditional longer layered looks work beautifully for this kind of look."

Products:
To get this sky-high look you're going to need some heavy duty products to keep it from falling flat. Terry suggests a volumizing spray (such as Redken's Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam) sprayed at the root or scalp area. "It creates exaggerated fullness," he explains. "Plus it protects hair from heat styling and humidity. " Some hairspray to top it off will also hold the style.

Make it everyday:
To make this look more wearable for everyday, just minimize the volume and take an inch or two off the height. Terry suggests getting the same volumized look without the drama by wearing your hair off your face and adding just a touch of volume and texture (even at the crown of a pony tail). "Just adding volume and texture to your hair will keep you trendy," he insists.

Keep it modern:
Terry says the key to this look is the mixture of different textures -- wavy, straight and curly. Sticking to one texture will look like last season.

Get the look:
Terry's steps on how to recreate this look.
* Start with damp hair and work in volumizing foam or mouse.
* Directional blow dry -- pulling it up and back away from the face and sides with a large round brush focusing on lifting the roots up and away from the head. Try flipping your head upside down while you blow dry to give extra height.
* Back comb hair away from face and up.
* Take an iron (flat and curling) and go over it in pieces to give it different textures after the shape has been built, not before. Don't curl or straighten every stand of hair, make it modern with a blend of textures that meld together.
* Finish with a strong hold hairspray.

The look: Diana Von Furstenburg, flirty '40s-inspired bouncy, girly curls

Ideal for:

"This look is best suited for wavy to curly textured hair," says Nhi Tran, assistant creative director at Vidal Sassoon Salon in Toronto. "Preferably between shoulder to upper back in length."

Products:
To get these curls to stay bouncy all day long you need a little help with some products. Nhi suggests using a curling enhancer or product, such as Oleo-curl by Kerastase, a diffuser, and some flexible hold hairspray for staying power and shine, such as, No. 7 Crystal Fixative Lacquer for Wizards (hairspray) by Davines, to achieve this look.

Make it everyday:
To make it wearable for everyday, Nhi suggests getting a long layered haircut and opting for a length between shoulders to upper back. This will help hold the curl and shape. "By having a proper haircut, hair will fall into place and the curls with bounce naturally," Nhi says.

Keep it modern:
The last thing you're going to want is to end up with curls that are too tight. "For a modern feel, the key is to keep the hair natural looking," explains Nhi. "Effortless chic is timeless." So keep those curls natural looking and slightly loose.

Get the look:
Nhi's steps on how to recreate this look.
* Towel dry cleansed and conditioned hair.
* Apply Oleo-curl to the hair. Encourage a thorough application.
* Find your natural part. Side parting works best for this look.
* Begin around the hairline. Section hair 1" - 2" across the head. Clip the rest of the hair away. Take a small section of hair approximately 1" wide and twist this section around your fingers. Continue this method throughout the entire head, until you reach the natural parting.
* With a diffuser attached to the nozzle of your blowdryer, lightly hold the diffuser against the scalp on low heat to encourage a naturally drying effect. Avoid touching the hair at this stage. Once the hair is 70% dry, lightly scrunch the hair to maximize the formation of the curls.
* Finally, spritz hairspray for the ultimate hold to the bouncy curls.
