The question on Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau’s mind before the Givenchy show: How does one layer two different types of hair, and make it look cool? The key to creating the look – layering a fitted cap of hair on top of exposed natural hair – was getting the colour and texture of each wig right. “It was a long process,” he told us of the look, which reminded us of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall 2013 show (also by Guido). “They had to be cut, set, and then blown out, hair sprayed and flattened.” When that was done, fringe was cut on each of the models individually. Underneath, hair was left pretty much alone, or manipulated into being straighter without a brush. “It gave you a sort of gang girl [look],” says Guido. It may not be a look you want to wear exactly as is, but it’s a friendly shove of encouragement to make a statement cut of your own
