This mélange of golden blond and honey highlights and caramels was 2015’s answer to ombré. Ask for a combo of babylights (thin strands of highlight) and balayage (focused around the face) for a blended look, says London-based Jack Howard, official colourist for Next Model Management. Punky Pre-Raphaelites and ’90s photography inspired the “cloudy and undone” knots at 3.1 Phillip Lim S/S 2015 show, says Canadian hair pro Susana Hong, whom we spotted in the backstage trenches behind a fog of dry shampoo. The key to this look is to pluck a few pieces out around the hairline – “it should look imperfect and fuzzy,” says Hong.
