3 steps to instantly healthy hair

Nix the buildup
Your hair is looking flatter than a surfboard right now, and no amount of volumizing product is lifting it. Those products and even your shampoo may be the culprits, leaving your hair greasy and dull. Rabi Bazzi, a stylist at Bruno Desjardins salon in Montreal, recommends using a clarifying shampoo every six weeks that will remove this excess buildup and give you healthy hair. One of his favourites is René Furterer Fioravanti. “The vinegar content of this rinse acts almost like an exfoliant to the hair, removing the unwanted buildup on the strands,” he says.

5 foods to eat for healthy hair

Boost your hair colour
Gain instant hair health with a dose of semi-permanent colour. “A semi-permanent dye lifts and deposits colour into the hair and fades naturally,” says Marco Ghasabani, artistic director and co-owner of Studio 180 Hair Design in Toronto. Plus a semi-permanent dye lets you switch up colours more frequently (and causes way less damage than permanent colour). So shiny, healthy looking hair can be yours after one quick dye job.

Add texture
If your hair is looking more lackluster by the day, think about some texture for instant lift and youthfulness. “If you have straight or fine hair, not adding texture can make your hair seem limp,” says Sarah Amson, stylist at Shagg Salon Toronto. “Texturizing products and tools can help you achieve the body and bounce you desire.” Bounce = youthful, healthy looking hair. Amson recommends prepping your hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, then using various sizes of curling irons. “These can help you to create a multitude of textured styles, anything from a subtle sexy wave to a tousled beach texture,” she says. “If you have natural texture, try using a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer to encourage your own wave or curl.”
