It’s been two long years without a televised Golden Globe Awards, so you bet Hollywood’s A-listers brought out their best red carpet glam for the 81st award show. Shine and shimmer were everywhere, from Julia Garner’s frosted eyes to Emma Stone’s glowy skin and Selena Gomez’s slicked-back high bun.

Many celebs embraced their character’s looks for beauty inspiration that blurred fiction and reality: Rosamund Pike went full Saltburn; Margot Robbie is still having her Mattel moment; and Brie Larson’s Old Hollywood waves were an ode to her character’s 1960s curls.

Some stars even used the red carpet itself for inspo with red showing up on nails, eyes and hair. Wherever we looked, we found playfulness and sparkle and a few bows still hanging on for dear life. Below, we break down our favourite beauty looks from the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.

Rosamund Pike

We doubt we were the only ones who let out a gasp when Rosamund Pike graced the red carpet in her black vintage Dior Haute Couture gown and dramatic Philip Treacy headpiece, fastened perfectly to her sculpted up-do. Behind the veil, makeup artist Melanie Inglessis highlighted Pike’s porcelain cheeks with Dior Rosy Glow Blush in #001 Pink and Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette in #002 Glitz.

Issa Rae channelled her sparkly personality into a Golden Globes look we couldn’t take our eyes off. The Barbie actress shone in a gold, bedazzled Pamella Roland gown with a makeup look that was just as shimmery.

Makeup artist Joanna Simkin achieved Rae’s eyeshadow shine with a combination of three Charlotte Tilbury shades: ‘Chocolate Bronze’,Star Gold’ (Eyes To Mesmerize Cream Eyeshadow) and ‘Bella Sofia’ (Luxury Eyeshadow Palette) for the soft bronze “shiny penny” look Rae wanted.

Margot Robbie

Margot Barbie, errm Robbie, continues to embrace her Mattel era with a red carpet look inspired by the 1977 Superstar Barbie Doll—pinky-nude lips and all. The lip combo was the work of MUA Pati Dubroff, who used a combo of Chanel’s 31 Le Rouge Satin Lipstick in ‘Beige’ and a coat of Les Beiges Lip Balm Hydrating in ‘Light’ for shine.

Instead of bleached blonde locks, Robbie went for “healthy shiny blonde,” says celebrity hair colourist Jacob Schwartz, who has worked on the star’s colour throughout the Barbie press tour. To achieve his signature “spun with gold” look, Schwartz used Olaplex Nº.1 while bleaching and applied Olaplex Bond Perfector Nº.2 for ten minutes after rinsing and before gloss. The result is a more natural-looking highlight that leaves hair moisturized and “lit from within,” says Schwartz.

Emma Stone

Emma Stone looked radiant in a plunging custom Louis Vuitton gown with a centre split that complemented her effortless auburn bob’s centre part. Everyone is talking about her best performance win, but we’re also dying to know how she got that golden glow.

Lucky for us, Stone’s makeup artist Rachel Goodwin broke down the whole look on her Instagram page. Hint:it’s all Charlotte Tilbury. From the new Magic Water Cream responsible for Stone’s dewy skin to her fluffy brows graced by Brow Lift in ‘Medium Brown’ and those fluttering, whimsical lashes brushed with Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Mascara, we’re truly obsessed.

Greta Lee

Past Lives star Greta Lee took a note from history with her glam Old Hollywood look. Lee’s soft curls were created by hairstylist Jenny Cho, who used a curling iron for those iconic Hollywood waves before pinning the curls to set..

Makeup pro Naoko Scintu opted for a “modern take on a classic look with a fresh, dewy cheek coupled with a hint of colour on the lips,” said the celebrity makeup artist who layered Sisley-Paris Phyto Blush Twist in Passion with L’Orchidee Highlighting Blush for that long-lasting, flushed-cheek finished.

Janelle James

We had major sleeve envy for Janelle James’s (detachable!) puffy, floor-length sleeves that added some extra “oomph” to her asymmetrical, black velvet Monsoori gown. To complement The Sleeves, makeup artist Naima J. added a sweep of vibrant green liner to Jame’s lower lashline for a pop of colour beneath her long, jet-black lashes. Glorious.

Dua Lipa

The red carpet was a sea of red (groundbreaking) and Dua Lipa was no exception with her spectacular cherry hair colour (the work of colourist Matt Rez) and nails to match. The Houdini singer brought the drama with her sculpted, gilded skeleton dress–an ode to her mermaid Barbie character with a gothic spin. To balance out the dark drama, the singer’s hair looked effortless with gentle beach waves, and her makeup was soft and warm with a brown smokey eye.

It’s not easy to pull off matching your makeup to your dress, but Da’Vine Joy Randolph is not one to shy away from a challenge. Makeup artist Sheika Daley took the burgundy jewels on the bodice of The Holdovers star’s dress as inspiration for her glittery eye shadow. The pièce de résistance? Randolph’s glazed rosey lips that complement the whole monochromatic look.
