Eye full
At Versace and DSquared2, eyes were sexy and ultra-smoky, thanks to a dusky palette of shadows and liners accented by dramatic false lashes. “This look offers an amazing freedom of expression,” says Yannick Vaudry, international makeup artist for Yves Saint Laurent. But, he warns, balance is key: pair intense eyes with a delicate lip shade.
Achieve the lookEyes With grey or brown eyeliner, draw a line all the way around the eye; create a halo effect by smudging it with a brush. Using black eyeliner, draw a line along the roots of the upper and lower lashes and blend. On top of the halo, sweep a charcoal or brown eyeshadow. Highlight the inner corner of the eye with a pearly white or grey shadow. Finish with two coats of black lengthening mascara and false lashes.
Cheeks Dust a peach or pink blush across the apples of the cheeks.
Skin Using your fingers, apply a sheer-coverage foundation to the forehead, cheekbones, nose and chin. Eliminate any shadows under the eyes and around the mouth with an illuminating concealer. Blend with fingertips for a more natural result and set with loose powder.
Brows Brush the eyebrows and fill in with a brow pencil.
Lips Complete the look with a nude or pale-pink lipstick.

Rainbow dream</b>
Fashion's love affair with the '80s has trickled over into makeup. At Alexander McQueen, Moschino and Heatherette, lips and eyes were accented by notice-me shades of purple, fuchsia and turquoise. “For a more wearable street look, pick a focus feature,” says Jane McKay, senior artist for M.A.C. “Do neon-pink lips or a dramatic aqua on the eyes -- but not both.”
Achieve the look
Eyes If you're playing up your eyes, brush a matte shadow across the lid. Don't blend too much -- the colour should be vivid, not a soft wash. Smudge black eyeliner around the eye and finish with two coats of black mascara. If lips are your focus, skip the shadow and just wear mascara.
Cheeks Steer clear of vibrant blush shades. Instead, sweep a soft pink or coral across the apples of the cheeks.
Lips Pair vivid eyeshadow with a neutral gloss or lipstick. If you're after a dramatic pout, fill in the lips with a matte, bright-coloured lipstick and add a touch of gloss to the centre of the mouth. To frame the look and prevent lipstick from bleeding, softly outline the lips with a matching liner on top.
Skin Apply a sheer coverage foundation to give skin a natural, glowing finish. Take down shine on the forehead, nose and chin with a matte powder. For more dimension, draw attention to the planes of the face (cheekbones and browbones) with highlighting powder.
