Scarlet fever
“Red lipstick is a big trend for fall,” says Eddie Maleterre, official makeup artist for L'Oréal Paris in Canada. “It's glamorous, feminine and chic.” At Gucci and Valentino, models paired rouged lips with luminous skin and long, lush lashes. But pulling off the screen-siren look requires attention to detail, says Maleterre. “When you wear a lipstick like this, you need to have a beautiful base -- powder or foundation -- and at least some mascara.”
Achieve this look
Eyes Sweep a light beige shadow across the lid and blend a second, slightly darker shade under the bottom lashes and in the crease, extending it up at the outer corner of the eye. With black eyeliner (pencil or liquid), draw a line as close as possible to the upper lash line. Curl the lashes and apply two coats of black volumizing mascara. For even more drama, add false eyelashes.
Cheeks Choose a beige-pink shade of blush and dust underneath the cheekbones to create the illusion of a contour.
Fill in the lips with red lipliner and paint on a creamy-textured red lipstick with a lip brush. Pink-based reds complement skin with cool undertones, while orange-reds are best for warmer complexions.
Skin Create a uniform base with a luminescent, medium-coverage foundation that matches the palest areas of the face. Set with translucent powder on the nose, forehead and cheeks.
Brows Using a flat, angled brush, apply brow powder in short, thin strokes.

Neutral ground
The nude face is a makeup classic, but what's new this time around is the focus on skin. “There's a lot more illumination,” says Rick DiCecca, global makeup stylist for Estée Lauder. “It's really important to have well-hydrated, well-exfoliated skin.” This look is also one of the most versatile. “It goes from day to night with liner and a little more cheek colour.”
Achieve this look
Brows Play up the brows by applying a neutral brow pencil in short strokes.
Skin Cover any imperfections with a creamy concealer. Using a foundation brush, apply a dime-size amount of illuminating base to the cheekbones, above the brows and under the eyes. Finish with a sheer or medium coverage foundation, blending well for a natural finish. Apply
powder to any shiny areas.
Lips Slick on a neutral shade of lipstick or gloss.
Cheeks Lightly dust a neutral blush or bronzing powder across the apples of the cheeks.
Eyes Dust a neutral-coloured shadow from the base of the lashes to just below the brows. For a daytime look, brush on one coat of brown or black mascara. For evening, dial it up with brown liner at the base of the lashes and two coats of black mascara.
