Gun control
Romano Ricci, the great-grandson of French couturière Nina Ricci, is a devilishly handsome former race-car driver who left the racing circuit for a far more treacherous course: modern perfumery. Ricci has catapulted ahead with the release of his first two fragrances, Miss Charming and Lady Vengeance. Both are rose chypres. His provocative approach is heralded by the name of his venture: Juliette Has a Gun. "This is a modern Juliette who is nostalgic for traditional courtship rituals but tired of the cowardliness of men," says Ricci, sipping a glass of Veuve Clicquot in the café at Holt Renfrew in Toronto. "She's a liberated woman who has her own means of seduction." Ricci aimed high by enlisting the services of his friend Francis Kurkdjian, one of the world's top perfumers. More creations are in the works.

Ask a derm
Q: How do I care for my dry, chapped lips?
A:"Lips are part of our skin, yet many of us tend to neglect them," says Dr. Lisa Kellett of DLK On Avenue (www.dlkonavenue.com). "They are mucous membranes, so they are more likely than other parts of the body to dry out -- and arid winter weather just makes the problem worse. Protection is the key to preventing chapped lips. Always apply a lip balm at bedtime to form a barrier. In the morning, apply a formula that contains SPF 30, vitamin E (an antioxidant) and menthol to further soothe them. If you already have chapped lips, a single diamond-peel treatment can remove the damaged skin cells and create a healthy base on which to start applying balm."
