For a lot of women, being a new mom is akin to a first day in a new job. In a field you’ve never trained in. Totally intimidating.

Alison Bishop, the newly crowned winner of Clinique’s Smart Ideas contest – in partnership with TED and launched at the TEDWomen2015 conference in September – hopes to change that.

Her winning idea: Boot Camp for New Moms, a peer group for new mothers and mothers-to-be. At these monthly workshops, women can share and brainstorm strategies for often-overlooked parenting challenges such as isolation, anxiety, pressure and stress. Parenting experts are also on hand to offer support and advice.

Bishop, a mother of four from Irvine, Calif., was awarded $20,000 for her “smart idea,” which she plans to expand around the globe. Watch a video of her story below.
