Two beauty truths: The point of foundation is to not look like you have any on, and a matte finish shouldn’t mean a dry finish. Enter the new NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint ($54), at narscosmetics.com. It’s a matte formula, explains makeup artist Diane Kendal, but it doesn’t look like you’ve put powder on over foundation.

“It allows the skin underneath to show through so it still looks very luminous,” she says. At the hair and makeup test for Thakoon’s spring/summer 2016 show, Kendal told us that the best way to apply the tint is with your fingers (“The heat from your hand makes it go on easier”), but feel free to grab a brush and apply it over areas that need more coverage.
