Montreal Fashion Week: Backstage beauty report, Day 2

Day 2 of MFW had us coveting everything from loosely swept up hair and icy cool makeup.

Martin Lim The hair at Martin Lim was inspired by Egypt, with the hair pulled up into a loose swirl so as to highlight the profile of the chin and jawline. "The look is chic and glossy in a high updo but with the ends left natural," says Denis Binet, Pantene Consulting Stylist.  The overall shape of the swirl, though, is not round, but more contemporary and loose. Using Pantene gel and hairspray for fine hair, Binet  pulled hair into a  high ponytail and then swirled the hair up and casually tucked in the ends, less fixed and precise than a bun.

For makeup, Amelie Ducharme, Cover Girl Makeup Pro, looked to the 50s for inspiration and gave it a sportier twist. "We wanted a strong lip, so we kept skin pure and very natural using Cover Girl Tone Rehab and Simply Ageless concealer adn the lashes just have some NatureLuxe mascara on the top lashes," she says. On the lips, you can get a similar almost fluorescent coral-y shade by combining Cover Girl Lip Perfections lipsticks in Fairytale.

Eve Gravel For the Eve Gravel runway, the designer wanted the hair to appear as though it were windswept, with the hair billowing out and back. To achieve this look, Binet use Pantene Mousse for Curly Hair to give the hair hold and strength and then used a curling iron to create waves. Then using his hands to scrunch and manipulate the hair, along with plenty of spritzes of hairspray, he created the look of movement to the hair. With the hair falling during the lead up to the show, just before they models hit the catwalk, Binet gave the hair a final spray to refresh the breezy feeling. As for makeup, Ducharme kept the makeup young and fresh with an icy cool feeling. Skin was evened out with foundation, with Smokey Shadow Blast in Beige applied and blended on the nose, above the upper lip and cheekbones to give a frosty look (A totally wearable look, especially for night, says Ducharme). On the eyes, she applied eyeshadow in a cool brown shade (shade 700) up to the crease, while also highlighting the inner corner of the eye with Intense Shadow Blast in 810, a cool pale pink colour. Note: this is one trick you'll want to try to open up your eyes and look more awake. Finishing the look are the brows, which are light and semi-bushy, using Cover Girl Professional Natural Lash Mascara to brush brown upwards to give them a slightly unkempt look.
