When Eddie Malter, Artistic Director for LG Fashion Week, met with Andy Thê-Anh to discuss his runway show, the designer told him he was inspired by Spain and the tango, but with a modern twist. And the look Malter developed? “Beautiful matte skin, with a touch of natural glow, grey to really black smokey eyes – something in between a cat’s eye and round smokey eye – and very red, almost matte lips,” says Malter. The look for the runway will be very intense, he says, but to transform it into a day look, use a softer grey palette for the eyes than the L’Oréal Paris Wear Infinité Colour Smokes uber-dark and mysterious palette he used for Thê-Anh’s show (look for the four Colour Smokes palettes when they launch in September). (He further deepened the inky black shadow by also using the dark shadow in L'Oréal HiP High Intensity Pigments Metallic Shadow Duo in Platinum 906). And for a more daytime-ready lip, just use your finger to dab on L’Oréal Colour Riche in Royal Red 303 instead of swiping it on.
“The look is very classic – we wanted to use baby oil on the models’ hair to get lots of shine, but a lot of the models had other shows after The-Anh’s,” says lead hair stylist, Eric Del Monaco. The compromise? L’Oréal Paris Studio Line Indestructible Gel, which he says offers almost as much shine as baby oil. To get this tango-inspired hairdo at home: Divide your hair into three sections, two vertical sections in the back and one horizontal section in the front sweeping to the back of your head. Gather the three sections into a ponytail. Twist several pieces, ranging from tiny to medium in size, and then tuck them in to create a pretty chignon. To add some bling, Del Monaco finished the look with a series of bobby pins pinned along each side of the hairline to create a sweeping band of pins that would shine when the catwalk lights shone on them. Muy bonita, don’t you agree?
